Mind to Air to Ear to Mind

I am a Chicago-born musician, sound designer, writer, and actor with 15 years of creative experience.
As a musician, I have performed across North America, both solo and in groups, but my main passion is telling stories through recorded music and audio. A multi-instrumentalist, I have self-produced four albums and countless songs under the name Bob Dey's Tank Engine Man, as well as recorded demos and albums for artists within my community.
In 2010, I began as Events Coordinator for saki Records in Chicago, where I designed and developed the 'saki After Hours' project: live art events focused on promoting local talent, experimentation, and audience participation. It was in this position that I also produced and hosted the experimental (and very silly) narrative/interview podcast, 'Today and Other Days.'
In 2012, I moved to Montreal where I fell in love with the vibrant independent theater scene and began studying performance at the Montreal Improv theater. This experience encouraged me to write and perform in two critically acclaimed and award-nominated plays for the Montreal Fringe Festival, 'Analysis of Failure' (2015) and 'Jumper's Wonderful Museum' (2016), winning the SPIRIT OF THE FRINGE AWARD in 2015.
Since 2016, I have provided freelance sound design, mixing, and mastering for several small-budget commercials, demos, contests, and films. Examples of this work can be seen on my Sound Design page.
In the last few years, I have turned my creative instincts toward film and video game music and sound design. In 2018, I started designing and building an interactive music/story website (for which I created a number of prototype pages* in Adobe Muse) and which ultimately led me to try my hand at building 3D worlds of sound in Unity. Though that aspect of the project is still in the early stages, I have already created a simple 'item collection' game; writing scripts in C# as well as taking advantage of the Unity Asset Store.
In short,  I love music and audio, but am also a committed creative with a variety of skills. I love collaborating, but I'm also a self-starter. The balance and flexibility of my evolving expertise and collaborative independence is what makes me adept at both leading and being an effective member of teams. Because when all else has been said and done, I just want to help make interesting things.
